643. Goose Island Festivity Ale

Sadly, just a little disappointing from Goose Island. Doesn't pack the brown ale punch of flavor that I really enjoy. It's not a bad beer, but one of the lesser Browns. I will drink it, but only if I know there's nothing else I need to try.

642. Flesk Brewing Chocolate Factory

This was crazy delicious.
So many amazing brews are coming from Chicago - it's no wonder I'm there once a month!  Delicious chocolate flavors that overwhelm any dry and bitter taste. Would happily order one from a menu.

30 April 2015

641. BrewDog Punk IPA

Nice, strong - yet smooth - IPA.
Still a little too bitter for me, but some really amazing flavored made it very easy to enjoy. Not something I'll drink a lot of, but I would never turn one down.

28 April 2015

640. Revolution Brewing Straight Jacket

Another beer in the Deep Woods Series that claims to have hints of coconut, sadly, I can't taste them. It's a nice, thick, and heavy beer with a little more dryness than sweetness - as I prefer my barley wines. Still good quality, that will make me sip it a little slower than I normally would.

Oh, and it's Tuesday. So, with the Destiny reset, I broke out the Warlock glass.

639. Small Town Brewery Not Your Father's Root Beer

This is a BIG trouble beer.
First, it is AMAZINGLY delicious.
It tastes exactly like root beer, exactly. No bitters, seriously sweet flavor. You cannot taste the alcohol at all. At all. This could get me in a lot of trouble!  WOW!

24 April 2015

638. Lagunitas Olde Gnarleywine

Really rich, Red Ale-like flavors up front, with an extremely dry and bitter aftertaste. It's obvious that Lagunitas loves their dry hops. It flavors are well balanced, and would please any hop-head.

637. Lagunitas Waldo's Special Ale

It's okay. Very high quality with flavors, but just too dry for me. Not bad bitters, but really dry. It's thick, and obviously has a very "herbal" vibe to it.

636. Revolution Brewing Gravedigger Billy

Couple of days late on this one.
Popped this puppy open on last Saturday, while playing Destiny, after I got in my new Destiny pint glass set.

Amazing flavors. Just so delicious from top to bottom. Nice and smooth, with a good little burn from the scotch. The only improvement would be if there was more coconut flavor, but the little hint is nice.

18 April 2015

635. Thr3e Wise Men Pope Smoke Wheat

Light and easy to drink, but with a dry and bitter after taste. It's easy to go down, but I am not a fan of the flavor it leaves in my mouth. It's not terrible, but I'm just not a fan.

12 April 2015

634. Flat 12 Full 90

I didn't get to try this brew last year, so I knew I needed to make sure it happened first thing this year.

It's a title too dry and bitter for me, but I made myself drink them in honor of the Indy Eleven, and the more I drank the easier it got to drink.

05 April 2015

633. Thr3e Wise Men Bulldog Brown

Very basic and standard brown.
Not watery, has flavor, but nothing special and nothing that makes it special in any way...

30 March 2015

632. Off Color Brewing Troublesome

Very light for being labeled as a wheat beer. Goes down really smooth and easy with no real body to it. The coriander flavor is present in the aftertaste, but I still think this is way too light and lacks anything to clasify it as a wheat beer.

28 March 2015

631. Twin Peaks Knotty Brunette

Twin Peaks' second "house brew" offering. Similar review as the Blonde. It's very standard, but very drinkable. I enjoy it and don't mind drinking it, but there's nothing making it amazing.

630. Twin Peaks Dirty Blonde

One of two "house brews" offered by Twin Peaks. It's a very standard blonde ale. A good offering, but nothing too special about. Still easy to drink with good flavors.

629. Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale

A little too dry and hoppy for my typical ale desires. It's not a bad beer, it's quality, and I would drink any one that was ever given to me - but there's so many beers I would rather be drinking.

628. Sun King Cowbell Milk Porter

One of the lesser Sun King beers I've had. Kinda watery and not much flavor. The hint of chocolate does still around in the aftertaste, but there's not much flavor while I'm drinking it. Just blah. Doubt I'll ever drink it again.  Many, many better options from Sun King.

23 March 2015

627. Epic Brewing Element 29 Pale Ale

Typical Hoppy Pale Ale.
Heavy, dry and hoppy.
Any HopHead will enjoy it, but it's just not what I tend to enjoy. Still a quality product, but nothing sets it aside from any other Pale.

07 March 2015

626. Carson's Brewery Red Dawn

Obviously it's called "Red Dawn" - I should be watching. Patrick Swayze right now, sadly, I'm not. But the name alone got me to buy it.

It's a very interesting blend. He wheat flavor is obviously there and it's thick, but there are also bold and bitter flavors from the Amber ale present. It's a very interesting blend. It's drinkable, but nothing that I would purposely pick. It's not bad by any means, but not exactly what I crave.

625. Indiana City Roulette

Really smooth and easy with no bitterness at all. Very good and rich flavors that leave a wonderful aftertaste. Super enjoyable, and yet another quality product from my favorite Indiana Brewery.

624. Carson's Brewery Brown Cow

An Indiana brewery I've been wanting to try, but since they are over three hours away, it's been a little difficult. Finally broke down and bought some bottles.

I'm a big fan of brown ales, it's one of my favorite styles. The aroma of this beer is amazing, from my first sniff, I enjoyed what I was taking in. When drinking the beer, it's a pretty standard Brown Ale. Nothing really stands out, but I do enjoy drinking it. It's a great recipe and nails what I expect fr this style. I would drink it regularly, because it's really enjoyable. The more I drink it, I notice it's one stand-out thing might be the sweetness in the finish. Seems to be a little more than most.

623. Revolution Brewing A Little Crazy

Not my favorite from Revolution, but it's ok. Not as full bodied as most Belgians that I like, and a little hoppier than I expected, until I realized this is also considered a Pale Ale. So, that explains that. It's ok, but there's much better beers from there.

27 February 2015

622. Off Color DinoS'mores Imperial Stout

This beer is absolutely amazing.
Beyond amazing. It perfectly captures all of the flavors it attempted. Upfront they all blend together perfectly and you are left with a residual mix of graham and chocolate lingering. It's ridiculously good.

621. 3 Floyd's Baller Stout

For 3 Floyd's Fifteenth Anniversary they collaborated with three other major breweries for this beer. My brother got his hands on one and it was delicious.

Lots of flavors all around and they blended better as it warmed up. The Brunch Stout was always prominent in the end. Very good beer.

620. Piece Brewery Dark and Curvy Dunkelweizen

Very standard Dunkelweizen.
Nothing special. Not amazing, not terrible. Exactly what it should be.

619. Piece Brewery Swingin' Single

Really good, very light. Easily a session beer for me. I could drink a lot. Nothing really stands out about it, but it goes down smooth!

618. Griffin Claw Brewing Norm's Raggedy Ass IPA

Dry. Bitter. Full blown IPA.
Good for hopheads, not enjoyable for Shane. Definitely quality, it's not crap, just not for me.

617. Oskar Blues Pinner Throwback IPA

Got this as a gift from my friend Wes.
It was canned less than a week before I drank it, and it was pretty good.
Brewed with eight different hops, it is FULL of a wide variety of flavors with only a mild dry-bitterness in the backend. Really enjoyable.

17 February 2015

616. Mikkeller Arh Hvad BA Sauteme

A little more dry than I tend to like in a Belgian, but there are amazing flavors and a really robust profile going on. It's taken multiple drinks to feel like I am actually getting everything this beer has to offer. It seems to be getting better as it warms up.

615. Mikkeller Juicebag

So, my friend Marnee and I enjoy some sour together. So, when she told me about a Mikkeller tapping event and said she found a new favorite sour, I had to come try it.

Really good sour flavor that goes down very smooth. Can't say it's the best I've had, but it is very very tasty.

16 February 2015

614. Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout

Not my kind of beer.
It very light and has no bitterness, but the coffee flavor is way too powerful for me. I do enjoy the chocolate flavors in the back end - so the after taste is fine, but drinking it is just not very good.

613. Dogfish Head American Beauty

Another typical beer from Dogfish Head. I can tell that it was brewed with quality, I can taste the flavors - but it's nothing that I am obsessed over. I don't need to drink it again, but I did enjoy trying it.

612. Vivant Undertaker

Really good flavors for a Belgian, but nothing really stands out. I would drink it again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to find it.

611. Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine

Drier than I prefer in a Barleywine, but very strong flavors. Full bodied and very heavy, yet smooth at the same time.

610. Lagunitas Scare City #2

They served this to us too cold, and I didn't care for the flavors at first.

Let it sit for ten minutes an suddenly this was an amazingly delicious beer that I am really enjoying. Really smooth and no bitters with some great cacao flavors. Very enjoyable.

609. 4 Hands Brewing Peanut Butter Chocolate Milk Stout

Pretty decent stout. Not as "milky" as most milk stouts I've tried, very light and watery. The peanut butter flavor kicks in very late, but makes the aftertaste very enjoyable.

05 February 2015

608. Professor Fritz Briem 1809

Pretty typical in flavor of a Berliner Weisse. Really smooth and easy to drink with good citrus notes. Light without any bitterness.

04 February 2015

607. Dude's Brews Dank IPA

Typical West Coast IPA.
Dry and and bitter.
Not much sticks out about the flavor.
I imagine a lot of Hop Heads love this beer, but it's not for me.

03 February 2015

606. Dude's Brews Riot Ye

Very malty, but also very dry in its finish. Some good flavors up front, but they don't last. Not a terrible beer, but I've had much better ryes.  Still going to enjoy it.

01 February 2015

605. Scarlet Lane Katrina

A very interesting and enjoyable flavor going on in this brown ale - which is said be brewed with brown sugar. The sweetness comes through in the back half after a very nice and bold brown ale taste up front. A little lighter than I would expect, but it's very good. Quite possibly the best beer I've had from Scarlet Lane.

604. Dude's Brews Leaves of Lemon Grass Witbier

Good, light, full-flavored witbier. A little hoppier than I tend to enjoy, but the bold flavors make it really good.

26 January 2015

603. Happy New Beer Kolsch

Claire and I have been saving this beer to drink together for over a year now. Finally had some time to chill and watch "Friends" and enjoy this Kolsch. Which is a really good and flavorful home brew. Enjoyable and he taste is spot on.

602. Green's Tripel Blonde Ale

Nothing special, especially because it was not the kind of Tripel I was expecting. This was fine for what it was. The "gluten free" was kind of a turn off when the bottle arrived...

20 January 2015

601. Sun King Solemn Oath 30 Minute Coma BSIPA

A little too dry and too bitter for me.
It's drinkable, but not something I prefer. The flavors are good up front, but the dry/bitter back end turns me off.

600. Chimay Grande Réserve (Blue) - Bières de Chimay S.A.

Somehow, this beer had escaped the list so far...
Back story:  in June, when Miller and I were watching World Cup Matches at Ale Emporium, we discussed this 3L Bottle of Beer they had. I was still in the mid-500s at that point. We decided that it would become Beer #600 and we would do it together. It took some rescheduling, as we have both been busy since I hit 599, but tonight was finally the night!  And we brought along some good friends to share in the moment.

Chimay is Chimay. It was really good, and really smooth. A little drier than I like, but that could be due to being aged for six years. Our bottle was dated for bottling in 2008.  I enjoyed it. Pretty much what I expected. A delicious Chimay was expected and was drank by a great group of people.
